Devotion in Salt and Sanctuary signifies your level within a Creed. To deepen your devotion, you must place a Stone Leader at a Sanctuary, and then you may interact with them and select the "Work" dialogue to exchange enemy remains for creed rank.

The maximum devotion rank is 7, and with each rank you can choose to obtain certain benefits that will apply to all sanctuaries of your creed moving forward. It is worth noting that devotion carries over to New Game Plus.

If you Sin and leave your creed, your devotion will be reset to zero.

If you ever leave your current creed, you will never again be able to regain devotion level, even if you clean your sin, etc.
The only solution left is to use cheats.
I have managed to find the Address for the devotion level: It is 3736EC10. Change its value from 0 to 1 and you will be able to start accepting quests again and regain your devotion level.
Hope this helps someone so that they are not forced to start all over.

so my main character is level 402 and i'm in new game +7 atm, but i feel like this is worth mentioning. i'm in keepers of fire and sky and have been for a while, i have 19 flasks of fire, 8 bottled sky, and 2 clarity. i was unknowingly benefiting from an unintentional feature where the "work" list would reset ever time you went to the next ng+.

ps: i started playing in july of 2017 and this has since been patched... sorry... :(

So, what if I have all these extra ears, ashes, etc. after my devotion is max? is there a place i can sell them?

I feel like this is worth noting, since i've seen a lot of questions regarding devotion reward items. Once you select your devotion reward, simply REST AT THE SAME CREED'S SANCTUARY to be granted the item you chose.

Help! My devotion for order of the betrayer is at 1 and I didn't get my sins forgiven until I had turned in almost all the work so I'm still at 1 devotion with only 2 work orders to turn in. Is it possible to still get 7 devotion?

With the Iron Ones, once I offered the Drowned Peasant's Ears, it instead treated it like one of the other items, increasing my devotion and finishing all my work in one conversation. This glitch just caused me to accidentally cheat and raise my devotion to 7 at level 22!
