Virulent Scimitar in Salt and Sanctuary is a Sword type weapon.

A crude iron scimitar covered in a thick layer of rust and grime. Its distinctive flared tip and primitive construction betray its origins in the stygian bogs of Gulchmire, where such weapons are carried on hunts by the native tribes of bloodthirsty lizardfolk. The oily sheen of myriad lethal poisons on its chipped blade must have accumulated over countless years of hacking through Gulchmire's toxic vegitation and flesh-hungry carnivorous flora.

Notes and Tips:

  • At 50 Strength and 50 Dexterity this weapon has an Attack of 57.0/38.3 at tier VII.
  • Two-handing a weapon increases Strength by 50% for damage scaling, meaning you only need 34 Strength to reach the 50 Strength soft cap when two-handing a weapon.

    • This sword pretty much has all you need for a poison wpn. The poison scaling is relatively weak but the base dmg is more on the higher end of poison wpns making one of the better ones to put a charm and/or a poison buff on to stack the dmg faster. It's weaker than they axe, but hits faster, and the extra blunt makes it pair well with a gun. And upgraded through the normal path, making it fairly easy to max out early on. My only gripe is that ... well its a sword with a sword moveset and sword kinda bore me but this is still a great wpn for a poison build.

Probably the best Poison weapon out there.

Very good moveset, good speed, good reach, manageable weight and staggers enemies quite easily. It has pretty high base damage for a Poison weapon (second highest), high enough to significantly improve its effectiveness when buffed with Pessmud or Venomous Blade (or any other elemental buff really). Pairs well with a gun because of it's Extra Blunt property, making Slash resistant enemies less of threat (I highly recommend wearing the Corsair set for maximum style points).

Although it owes much to its weapon class, its cons stem from that same reason. It's a class 3 sword, so you're going to waste at least 6 points in Strength if you're aiming for a pure Dexterity build (if you really don't want to, the Pessklaw is a good choice). Not that big of a deal really considering this will enable the use of the Tachi, a must-have for Dexterity builds. It will also benefit a little bit from that Strength because of its scalings... which are pretty bad, true, but it does have a decent base damage and its purpose isn't to deal high physical damage in the first place. Also if you have an offhand gun and a load-out dedicated to deal Slash damage (shouldn't be too difficult for a DEX character), this stops being an issue altogether.

On a side note, the thing looks really badass.

P.S : I highly recommend getting Poison Gas to deal with highly resistant enemies that also happen to resist Slash damage. Usually takes one cast or two to poison almost anything (some enemies just have too much resistance to even bother but those are rare cases). When it triggers, keep stackin' n smackin' with this beauty.
