Flint & Steel in Salt and Sanctuary is a Sword type weapon.

A single-edged broadsword with a wheellock revolver ingeniously grafted into the hilt. Devised by the Choir of the Dome of Light and perhaps testament to their sin, its design draws heavily upon influences from Kar'hi legends in which descriptions of similar weapons are relatively common. Owing to its considerable recoil when firing, two hands are required to steady the blade while operating the trigger.

Press [Triangle] while wielding this weapon in both hands to fire equipped ammunition.

Notes and Tips:

  • At 50 Dexterity this weapon has an Attack of 92.7 at tier VII.
  • Unlike regular pistols or crossbows, you can equip a charm along with the Sword/bullets since the sword itself is also the pistol. Has massive ranged damage potential if built properly. (200+ dmg per shot)
  • Gun shots with this weapon have a significantly slower rate of fire than off-hand gun weapons.
  • Like other gun weapons, this weapon has a 1.5x damage multipler on its gun shots (but not on its melee attacks).
  • Melee attacks with this weapon deal purely Slash damage while the damage of its gun shots is split into 50% Slash and 50% Strike damage.

Bugs

Several bugs have been reported while using this weapon:

  • Equiping Flint & Steel and a pistol in your off hand, and then firing the pistol may cause the pistol to permanently disappear from your inventory.
  • The following actions may crash the game while Flint & Steel is equipped (may also require that you have ammo equipped as well): Doing a 'stomp' finishing move on a downed enemy; changing rings; using magic
  • Equiping a charm while using Flint & Steel can randomly cause the charm to be permanently removed from your inventory.

 Trivia

  • This weapon is likely drawing its inspiration from Final Fantasy VIII where the main Character Squall Leonhart wields a so-called "Revolver" that is also a two-handed Sword with a built-in revolver handle. The icon of Flint & Steel also shares a similar look like Squall's Gunblade.

assuming you have shot equipped, it uses the two-handed attack combos, and you can't use the one handed moveset, which is annoying =/

what i find very annoying is that if you light attack after shooting it shoots again instead of slashing
i dont wanna shoot again i wanna slash them

Amazing weapon, default slash damage and the shot deals 50% strike damage, what helps a lot against those pesky enemies resistant to slash. Not to mention that using the shot as combo finisher won't consume ammo. My favorite combo is light + light + light + heavy + heavy. Update on the damage: At 50 Dexterity this weapon has an Attack of 95.5 at tier VII.

If you're having a hard time figuring out how to equip the ammo, it's not equipped to the third slot (charm slot), you equip it to the middle slot with the "hold with two hands" icon.

My only huge problem with this weapon is that the shot is slow. It does more damage than your average pistol at the point you can get it (from my experience) but it is sloowww to reload. A flintlock is faster and can blend into a combo. You also cannot slam attack with this sword if it is two handed, or has an ammo type loaded into it.

WARNING: IF YOUR PLAYING WITH A KEYBOARD AND MOUSE DON'T USE THIS WEAPON.
It's fine as a normal sword but you can't use it to shoot for some reson, and I can't find an explenation for that. I can't equip ammo on it nor can I 2 hand it. Does anybody know how I could fix this issue? I don't have any controllers ( i don't own any consoles ).

After acquiring this weapon and using it for the first time, I have been testing it to see if any of the reported bugs are still active. Currently, I can confirm that the following bugs have been fixed:
                  - Firing a pistol with Flint and Steel may remove the pistol from your inventory
                  - Using a charm with Flint and Steel may remove the charm from your inventory
                  - Changing rings with Flint and Steel may crash the game

I haven't been able to test the other two crash bugs yet, but I'm going to assume they were fixed as well. This was on the PC version (build 1.0.0.8) of the game.

This is the only "gun" that can be buffed by both a charm as well as a Blessed Page, making it the strongest damage per shot in the game.

coolest weapon EVER!! I love this thing to death, though im not much of a "gunner" myself, i love the combo of a sword/shotgun!! i showed this to my friend and the first thing he said was "gears of war? i didn't know that was a thing on the switch." XD

is there any way to speak to the devs about this weapon? i'd love for them to add a feature of pressing triangle while swinging it to use ammo to increase damage of the swing. paying homage to the timed attack of FFVIII. also would it make it unbalanced to have it as strength and dexterity scaling, maybe if you lower the grade a little?

There were some scary bugs in the past with this thing, but I just beat my first run on the Vita with a mix of this and the Glaive, it feels more like a really fast sword with a built in shotgun than a pistol. The DPS was pretty insane, far more practical than I expected.

You can still right click attack with this even if you're not able to wield it. But it's just a normal swing instead of a shot and can't combo.

I'm unable to even equip ammunition for it, nor do I honestly know how as there's no explanation at all from what I've seen, seeing as it will only let me equip a charm.

This weapon is definitely worth it. It is in my opinion the most fun weapon in the game due to it's versatility and the sheer fun and badassness (that's a word now) of finishing something off in a blaze of fire and bullets... Or electricity or poison, whatever type of bullets you prefer, everything is compatible with it. As for the bugs, I haven't experienced any of them. You should probably know that I am playing this game on pc, I don't know if this also goes for PS4. I've just got this weapon for two days, but I've been spamming ring/charm swaps to check for the bugs and the stomp animation also didn't give me any issues. I guess this response to the question "Is it worth it" kind of turned into a review of this weapon, so let me take the opportunity to tell everyone reading this that this is a unique weapon which actually blew me away when I finally got my hands on it. It is worth noting that the sword must be handled with both hands to be able to fire it. Also, the shooting option takes away the ability to perform a heavy attack, but uppercuts are still possible. Every bullet is compatible, there is the option to equip this beast with whatever charm you like and it has a decent A-scaling in dexterity. So is it worth it? If the bugs are affecting your game, you can easily work around it by swapping to your secondary loadout and swap rings/charms or stomp on people's faces. I can imagine it's a bit of a bother and it might cause it to be not #wurf. If you are, like me, presumably bugless, then do give this a shot (heh, get it?)! Happy hunting!

Do not STOMP an enemy while two-handing this weapon. Similar to the ring switching crash, it will also crash your game. The weapon is so awesome it crashes the game in several ways...

Warning: Do not change rings if you have ammo with this blade on with a charm, it crashes me a LOT. (my character is Female)

                                    • I've found that I can't transmute the Arming Sword or Tachi into this, but the Virulent Scimitar works fine. It looks like Flint & Steel is a class 2 Flintrazor, and I'm thinking maybe it can only be transmuted from class 3 or higher swords? I'm not sure what's going on, but this is just my experience.
